TOPSHOP BRAND ROAD MAP- Research 1
SIR PHILIP GREEN
"Philip Green Topshop
and Topman report £505m loss
Pre- tax figure far exceeds £3.8m of losses recorded in
previous year
Topshop and Topman chains slumped to a £505m loss last year
as sales fell.
About 350 stores worldwide, fell 9% to £846.8m in the year,
struggled to compete with rivals such as ASOS, H&M and Primark. Sales fell
by 9.8% at the 200 UK stores."
The chairman for Arcadia, Philip Green, has had serious allegations against him in the past year, being accused of racial, physical and sexual abuse said The Guardian. These allegations have entailed cause other brands like Beyoncé’s Ivy Park to pull out from shares with the company. This has cause a contribution to the decline in Topshop sales as well as other Arcadia brands as many customers feel that it would be immoral shopping in these places and supporting a brand with such allegations attached to it.
Topshop worked with Penguin publisher to help promote a collection of feminist books from different authors, this pop up event however, was abruptly cancelled after an hour by Philip Green. This decision promotes the editor of the collection, Scarlett Curtis, to accuse the store of letting down the teenage girls who shop there. Topshop have been the brand to create clothing with the link to feminism, however, portray it in a way that it is a trend. Causing an uproar with the feminist community as their brand ethic state nothing to help the feminist movement.
Peta is a non profit organisation that care for the ethical treatment of animals, they collaborated with Topshop to create a campaign to keep “wildlife out of your wardrobe”, creating a window display at London Oxford Road Topshop, one of their largest flagship stores.

This campaign contradicts Topshop with their current product range, although real fur is no longer used in any of their products, as a brand they are actively still selling real leather, in which is quite hypocritical of them campaigning with a company that on the forefront campaigns strongly on animal rights.
