Mood Board 3 - NIKE CORTEZ 1972
Moodboard 3, Product:
Nike Cortez 1972
I struggled whilst choosing my product as there were many different trends and favourites during the 70s, due to the vast different popular fashion at the time such as;
Jumpsuits - which were popularised by singer-songwriter David Bowie, who also challenged androgynous fashion at the time of the 70s
Bellbottoms
Sheer transparent clothing (movement) - which was pioneered by designers like Yves Saint Laurent and Ossie Clark
Platformed shoes/boots
The punk fashion including;
Tartan
Leather jackets
Dr Martens
DIY clothing
Studs and Spikes as well as many many safety pins.
I had chosen the Nike Cortez, as it was the shoe to brand Nike as who they are today and not something that they had just come out within the 1970s, in 1972, they branded themselves as the independent brand 'Nike', previous to their older name Blue Ribbon Sport.
FINAL MOODBOARD: With Nike being invented in the US, I stuck with the colour theme of the flag with blue, whites and reds, as well as the first colourway of the Nike Cortez being, blue, white and red. I used the old vintage logo that presented Nike to the nation at the time. The imagery of Farrah Fawcett was used, as when it was debuted on Charlie's Angels ing 1977 that was when the shoe was presented to the public audience and worn by not just runners, where the initial intentions were. This established Nike as not only a centred as a Sports brand but fashion too.

still manufactured and worn to this day) at the time Nike was still branded as
BRS (Blue Ribbon Sports) and not known to be the brand that it is today. BRS
operated as a US distribution company for the Japanese brand Asics, formally
known Onitsuka Tiger in the 70s. In 1966 the co-founder of Nike Bill Bowerman
together with Onitsuka Tiger designed the first prototype of the Cortez. They
created it with the 1968 Mexico Olympics in mind and more specifically runners
/ Olympic runners. In 1971 BRS officially changed their name to Nike and by
1972 Nike broke of ties and partnership with Onitsuka tiger. Both brands now
have a version of the Cortez as they worked in partnership to create the show
style. Due to the success, Nike was at the forefront of sporting goods and gave
the company the opportunity to establish themselves as a legitimate brand.
